i was deep in texas when a call came through... -hey man it s cherry ! ...we got some sick new shit for you, gonna blow your mind- i waited nervously for the package. it arrived two weeks later. i slipped the hot black acetate from its wrapper and placed it on the turntable... wired guitars wail like banshees on heat, primal beats erupt drenched in dark juice from roots of trees slick with crunk. flutes and bells hang like exotic flowers that reek of jungle sex and all night long the pulse goes on and on and on as usual cherry was right...this most surely is one sick motherfucker of a record. don t get me wrong there s warped beauty here aplenty but you gotta take it easy. don t ingest it all at once...make sure you re in comfortable surroundings, trust me i know...six months later and i m still feeling the burn. damn you cherry garcia.

martin landskys long association with poker flat recordings continues with yet another exquisitely realized three-tracker. long since a staple of the underground electronic music scene in berlin and europe in general, landsky’s deft ear for dynamics and sense of off kilter dance-floor knowledge continues to do the business for djs and dancers alike. after the great success of vol.1 , landsky now presents ‘ekko traxx vol.2′,,,. ‘echo my head’ is the perfect example - driving, focussed and funky, yet with a subtle undercurrent that keeps you slightly out of your comfort zone and locked in to the groove. weird night contains a spooky, discordant synth that raises the tension over and over, before giving way to a hard driving rhythm track that will see the late night heads fully losing themselves classic landsky style. that organ has a similar aesthetic, chunky rhythms and bass pulses for the floor, and synth stabs and melodic hooks that keep the track in constant forward motion.

ritornell’s richard eigner & abby lee tee originally teamed up to provide the score for a collaboration with filmmaker andreea sasaran and illustrator katja seifert entitled »melting sphere«. sharing a passion for the combination of filigree electronics with playful timbres of diverse acoustic instruments and odd utensils, the cooperation of the two producers was a logical choice.
»melting sphere« merges subsonic bass, kalimba rhythms, accordion sounds and toy bells, all framed by eavesdropping recordings of abby lee tee’s cat, bathroom squeaks for five minutes of organic downbeat bliss.
»tired dancers« on the flipside offers a melancholy tale of seduction relayed from the shadows, with field recordings of nightly city noise, a reversed music box melody, hypnotic chords and meticulous percussion. delicate, celestial cello (by lukas lauermann) and contrabass flute emerge as counterpoint to this rhythmic hypnosis.
this record is as shimmering as you would expect.

der titel ist programmatisch. 1976 im new yorker hunter college aufgenommen, steht der große blues-sänger und gitarrist john lee hooker alleine auf der bühne. nur auf sich selbst konzentriert, spielt er den blues in seiner reinsten form. dieses album wird nun erstmals auf vinyl veröffentlicht (downloadcode inklusive). dies ist teil 2 der aufnahme seines legendären konzertes in new york, was ursprünglich auf dem label tomato veröffentlicht wurde. wie ein jazz-musiker, liebt john lee hooker es zu improvisieren. so sind die hier vorliegenden versionen einiger seiner größten hits wie “boogie chillen” und “hobo blues” einmalig - im doppelten sinne dieses begriffes. der im jahr 2001 verstorbene john lee hooker gilt als legende seines fachs. er spielte in dem film “blues brothers” mit und ist unter anderem mit einem stern auf dem hollywood walk of fame, der aufnahme in die blues hall of fame und die aufnahme in die rock and roll hall of fame geehrt worden.

you can always trust ludovic llorca. once a year he locks himself in his studio and works the magic which results in a local talk release. his previous releases on local talk, the same thing (classic proto housemeets-baggy us garage vibe) the rainbow song (it sounds like an underground summer anthem in waiting) are lt classics and now, ludo returns with a third release, i just can t ep. while some producers struggle with new ideas, trying to re-invent the genre, ludo sticks to what he knows best. strings and chords combined with a thick and squelchy bass is the foundation of the title track while on the flip, dirty stories, is as hypnotic as it is jackin, in fact, both tracks are so irresistible you d start wondering if ludo stole them from a snake charmer.
